The main constituent that makes Eucalyptus such an active oil is cineol or euclyptol. During the cold and flu season, Eucalyptus helps to relieve congestion and stuffy nose. The best way to use Eucalyptus is in a candle, or in your bath. You can put a drop of Pure Eucalyptus Essential oil ($12) in the hot water of your tub.

Eucalyptus History

Eucalyptus globulus (we’ll call it just Eucalyptus from here on out) is also known as bluegum eucalyptus, bluegum or Tasmanian bluegum (botanical family – Myrtaceae). Eucalyptus is native to Tasmania and southeastern Australia.

It was introduced into California in 1856 and into Hawaii in 1865. It is an important source of fuel wood for many countries as it burns freely, leaves little ash and produces good charcoal. It’s a very sustainable tree and can be harvested every 7 years. It’s also used for pulpwood (doesn’t work well for lumber because of excessive cracking and shrinkage).

Eucalyptus is planted in North Africa to block the spread of malaria by repelling mosquitoes and in ancient times, Australian aborigines placed the leaves of eucalyptus on wounds to cleanse and heal them.

Summing it up...

Eucalyptus essential oil is well known for its antibacterial, antiseptic, disinfecting and expectorant properties. The oil is used for colds, flu, coughs, congestion, sinusitis, respiratory infections, skin and throat infections, inflammation, sores, wounds and even as a natural insect repellent. At Delizioso Skincare we have at least a couple Eucalyptus candles standing around, especially during the cold season in Canada. Have a beautiful winter and breathe easy with Delizioso aromatherapy.

What causes dry skin in the winter season?

In the summer, the heat blisters our skin, it is warm and it is nice and the sun keeps our moods uplifted and joyous. Of course there are cons and pros to each season of the year, and it is given to appreciate all of them, but have you ever felt that your skin was drier during the winter season?

There is an explanation to this, and some tips on what you should be doing and shouldn’t be doing with your skin to keep it glorious all year round. The biggest problem in the winter season is that humidity is fairly low compare to the summer, meaning that your skin will need all that new moisture. The problem is…You’re not getting that moisture.

This leads us to the topic of natural skincare and synthetic skincare which I will thoroughly discuss in a separate article. But what I must mention is that any over the counter brands, or brands that contain synthetic ingredients and large amounts of water will NOT moisturize your skin. That is because the formulations are incorrect and harmful to the derma instead of being helpful. What your skin needs is a good thirst quencher. Imagine yourself, in need of that water after a long summer jog. That is how your skin feels during this season and the best ways to help your skin may be real close.

One of the awesomest skin quenchers by far is butter! Yes, I said it, butter. But not the kind of butter we consume on a day to day basis. The best of the best is raw Shea butter from Ghana. Shea butter is an amazing emollient. Did I say amazing? Not only is Shea moisturizing for your skin, but it also helps improve circulation and fight aging. Its also super simple to apply. To make it smell a little better you can mix it with your favorite essential oil…But you could use Carrot seed oil mixed with Orange oil. This duo will attract moisture to your skin like nothing else.

The best time to apply moisturizer to your skin is after a hot bath. When your skin is washed with warm or hot water, your pores open up and indulge in the goodness that you will rub in. The best ingredients and top moisturizers are also found in the Delizioso Skincare Body Butters! These are really amazing and based on Shea Butter. But unlike pure Shea Butter, they are fluffed up with Ale juices and vitamins. Your skin will be begging for more!

Autumn is coming, Skin needs hydration

Autumn is coming and we have had a great, warm summer. As every day passes and transitions into the colder months, your skin will be desparate for hydrating antioxidants and nourishing fruit oil.

As winter air reaches your skin it increases dryness. Also, you might have been wary of SPF in the summer months. Don't forget how essential it is to still protect your skin during the winter months. The sun is still shining and free radical damage is still actively working at your cells. Keep a daily SPF cream around like our Bulgarian Rose Day Cream SPF 15. Our Bulgarian Rose cream is perfect for the winter months because it is super nourishing.

Is your skin thirsty?

Your skin is the largest organ of your body that requires more attention then you might have thought. It protects our inner selves from the outside world filled with pollution and free radicals. It works to keep body temperature in control and prevents loss of water. But what happens when our skin isn't hydrated?

When your largest organ is thirsty is is dehydrated, just like you might think of yourself in the summer heat. It is more likely to irritate, act sensitive and the biggest oh,my! Is that it is more likely to age faster. Is is EXTREMELY important to moisturize, even if you have oily skin. Because hydrated skin is beautiful skin that will less likely develop wrinkles and flaws over time. To replenish skin externally it is essential to use a moisturizer which penetrates the skin's outer layer. Antioxidants will act helpful in this situation by fighting free radical damage. You should look for ingredients like: Rosehip (Rosehip & Ginger night cream), Aloe Vera (Found in all our creams), Chamomile, Papaya etc.

Creams and lotions containing oil and water-soluble vitamins, in particular vitamins A, B, C, and E, will promote healthy cell growth. A recent addition to moisturizer formulas, the antioxidant co-enzyme Q10, when combined with vitamin E, promotes effective cell growth properties (Found in our Watermelon & CoQ10 moisturizer).

Of course, proper nutrition, plenty of sleep, outdoor exercise, and drinking at least six to eight glasses of water per day are essential for healthy, well-hydrated skin. But just drinking water will not always keep you hydrated. The body requires certain minerals called electrolytes to carry the water into the cells of the body. The best way to get a proper balance of electrolytes is to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Flavonoids are also required to maintain healthy skin. Flavonoids are the group of plant pigments that give colour to fruits, flowers, and some vegetables. Great dietary sources of flavonoids are citrus fruits, berries, onions, green tea, legumes, parsley, and sage. Flavonoids slow down the destruction of collagen (the protein that structures skin and blood vessels), preventing and decreasing wrinkling, loss of skin elasticity, bruising, and varicose veins. Simply put, foods such as fruits and beans can slow down the aging process.

Remember, you can age gracefully and healthy and your outlook will reflect the youthful way you feel inside!

XOXO

Where have we been?

We have been off blogger for quite a while but thankfully the time we took off was worthwhile. Our great designers updated our site and I myself happened to come up with more than few great formulations that will truly change the way you look at your skin. Firstly we are launching a 100% Natural and Certified Organic Mineral Foundation that not only acts as coverage.

"This 100% Natural & Certified Organic foundation works to nourish like a tinted moisturizer yet is highly pigmented like a foundation, providing lasting, natural coverage. With specific pursuits in mind this foundation was formulated with 5 angles like no other. Anti-Aging: Alginate, CoQ10, Kola Nut, Green Tea, Orchid, Bilberry, Rose and Watermelon. Nourishing: Jojoba, Watermelon, Cucumber, Apricot. Anti-Inflammatory: Aloe, Blue Chamomile, Calendula, Horsetail, Cucumber. SPF 30 + Chemical free sun protection with Zinc and Titanium Dioxide (Physical sun block). Blemish Fighting: Sugar Cane and Maple, Lemon, Manuka Honey, Jojoba, and Oregon Grape. "

Go quickly and take a look at these babies on our site. We already sold out of our first batches and are getting raving reviews for these products:

"I use the Clinique tinted moisturizer and I love it. I think though that this foundation works better on my skin. The coverage is better and it’s moisturizing. The SPF is awesome and I love the anti-aging benefits since I am in my 60's. Thanks!"

Carolina, TX

"Every dark foundation that I used broke me out, not this one. I have extremely sensitive skin with psoriasis so I tend to shy away from makeup all together. Also I was told that I shouldn't use powdered Titanium Dioxide because its toxic in powdered form. I love this foundation but I really want you guys to come up with more makeup and cosmetics. I have been using your shadows too but I would appreciate a wider selection :) Love the lip shine's though. My favorite is Strawberry!"

Sarah Abby Morrisson, PEI

Secondly we launched our amazing Watermelon and CoQ10 collection that has gone to retail stores in US and Canada . These are probably our best sellers so don't forget to take advantage of purchasing the entire regimen at a discount ($75.00 Retail Value: $92.00). Also check out our proof of age rewind statistics for the collection.

Look out for our next blog posts about keeping safe in the summer sun and keeping dry skin nourished and mature skin young!

The Watermelons and...

Melons are great fruit that we enjoy during the summer months. Except for those that live in warmer regions that is (lucky you). But today I am not blogging about how tasty watermelons are or how we should all eat them or what not, I am talking about watermelons in skincare! I first personally tried watermelons on my skin this summer, when I made a homemade watermelon mask just for fun. My skin wasn't exactly at it's best and I felt it needed a refreshment. So I got a pretty standard recipe which I will share with you today.
You will need:
1 cup of chopped watermelon (Eat the rest)
1/2 of a small container of yogurt
1 tsp of Aloe Vera juice and...
a blender!
How simple right? So what you is you blend these together and you apply it generously to skin. Some may want to substitute yogurt for sour cream which will make the mask thicker and less leaky. I used Organic plain yogurt. I kept my mask on for quite a bit, I think nearly half an hour. When I washed the mask off I was amazed with the results. My skin looks so much brighter, and already felt suppler.
That was when our company decided to create the line of Antioxidant Watermelon Facial care items with CoQ10 coming out the first two weeks of January! So to talk a little bit of the products that we formulated, and analytically tested for our great customers: All of these products of course contain Organic Watermelon Extract (Citrullus lanatus). Watermelon extract is abundant in vitamin C and naturally occurring amino acids. Already those are very important aspects for our skin. But that is not all, the extract also supports the UV-stressed immune system of the skin and can be used to prevent photo-aging. Added to that it helps to protect the skin from every day toxins and promotes cell-renewal and elasticity of the skin. Along with Watermelon extracts this line of facial care items is infused with Watermelon seed oil. The oil has a rich composition of essential fatty acids that help to restore elasticity to the skin. It, therefore, is wonderful for all skin types, including dry, oily, acne-prone or maturing skin. So there we go, watermelon is really amazing on the skin. Added to the watermelon, our third main ingredient is CoQ10 which is an amazing natural anti-oxidant. Studies show that CoQ10 can effectively counteract free radical damage and provide significant protection against UVA-induced depletion of cell membrane. In other words, it will prevent damage to collagen and elastin production process and help you avoid wrinkles. CoQ10 is so powerful, it is able to reduce cancer tumors and minimize stroke consequences that are due to suddenly increased levels of free radicals. So when applied topically, it can provide extra protection for your skin and produce a dramatic anti-wrinkle effect. We found this to be a great combination providing great results for wrinkled skin. However even if you do not have wrinkles this is still a great regimen to use because it is so enriched with antioxidants and nourishing fruit oils that it will help you retain young, and bright looking skin naturally. Did I also mention that watermelon extract works great on blemishes?
So the products that we are going to offer are as follows. As always every product is 100% Natural, vegan, and Organic.
  1. Watermelon and CoQ10 Moisturizer - SPF 20 1.7 oz - $32.00 US/$34.00 CAN
  2. Watermelon and CoQ10 under eye gel (For those bags and dark circles) -  1.7 oz  $18.99 US/$22.00 CAN
  3. Watermelon and CoQ10 Gel Cleanser - 5 oz $16.00 US/$17.50 CAN
  4. Exfoliate with Watermelon and CoQ10 - 2 oz $14.00 US/$16.00 CAN
Look out for that...And a message from our team to you...

What are Antioxidants?

Every best friend you know is talking about them. The web is now advertising super antioxidant creams, and gels. But what are antioxidants really?

An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that causes our skin to age. Oxidation is mainly caused by smog, pollution, etc. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibiting other oxidation reactions. As a result, antioxidants help to keep skin supple, nourished and firmer.

Although oxidation reactions are crucial for life, they can also be damaging; hence, plants and animals maintain complex systems of multiple types of antioxidants, such as glutathione, vitamin C, and vitamin E as well as enzymes such as catalase, superoxide dismutase and various peroxidases. Low levels of antioxidants, or inhibition of the antioxidant enzymes, cause oxidative stress and may damage or kill cells.

All Antioxidant ingreidents from plants like Green Tea and Carrots help keep skin firm, and supple.

Knowing your skin type

How important is it? With natural skin care no product will do any harm to skin, yet some may fit your skin better. How do you decide if you should purchase the Carrots facial cream or the Rose? Well the carrots is best for dry skin and the rose for normal. So what type of skin do you have?

Normal Skin
If you skin belongs to a normal type, the tissue will not reveal any traces of oil. Your skin should feel vibrant, elastic, and supple. Normal skin is the least problematic type. It looks smooth and has a good circulation and healthy complexion. Even with a minimum care, it will look good well into your advanced age.

Dry Skin
If your skin is dry, the paper will be clean, too, but your face skin will feel flaky, dry, and tight after you dry it. Dry skin can easily develop a sallow tone, wrinkles, and fine pores, and it is very prone to aging and irritating. To keep it healthy, you should apply thorough care and use regular treatment with natural masks and moisturizers.

Oily Skin
If you have oily skin, the paper will have spots of facial oil on it, corresponding to the areas of your cheeks, nose, and forehead. Oily skin is problematic – it usually looks greasy, thick, coarse, and shiny, has enlarged pores, and tends to break into acne. A good thing, though, is that oily skin is not prone much to aging and wrinkling. Careful cleaning, minimizing of carbohydrate consumption, and avoiding rich creams can be helpful in improving the quality of oily skin.

The Ingredient that dangerously lurks behind every foaming bath & Body Product...

Have you ever thought of what makes soap foam? Well naturally we would think that is from the process of soap making. A combination of Sodium Hydroxide and Cold pressed cazrrier oils. Yet there is so much soap...shampoo, bubble bath, shower gels, everything. What makes it all foam? The ingredient used is Sodium Laureth or in some cases Laurys Sulfate. It is much cheaper then the alternative we use in our shower gels which is Natural saponified coconut oil. Meaning the traditional way to saponify cold pressed organic coconut oil. Read below to find out the dangerous ingredient which we use daily on our skin and our hair.

A research study by the JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TOXICOLOGY.

"Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is an anionic surfactant used in cosmetics and industrial chemicals as a cleansing agent. In absorption, metabolism and excretion studies Sodium Lauryl Sulfate had a degenerative effect on the cell membranes because of its protein denaturing properties. High levels of skin penetration may occur at even low use concentration.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate had an LD 50 (Lethal Dose for 50% of the animals tested) of 0.8 to 110 g/kg in rats. A formulation containing 15% caused depression, labored breathing, diarrhea and death in 4 out of 20 animals.

In acute ocular tests, 10% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate caused corneal damage to the rabbits’ eyes if not irrigated or irrigation was delayed. A Draize test of a product containing 5.1% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate caused mild irritation and products containing 21% were severely irritated with no rinse and mildly irritated when rinsed.
Acute animal skin irritation studies of 0.5% to 10% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate cause slight to moderate irritation. Applications of 10% to 30% caused skin corrosion and severe irritation. Solutions above 20% were highly irritating and dangerous. One percent and 5% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate produced a significant number of comedones when applied to the pinna of albino rabbits.

A chronic oral feeding study in rats of 0.25%, 0.5% and 1.0% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in the diet for two years produced no observable abnormalities except for moderate to severe dermal effects. In mutagenesis studies, rats fed 1.13% and 0.56% Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in the diet for 90 days produced no more chromosomal aberrations or clastogenic effects than did a normal diet.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate was tested for human skin irritation in concentrations ranging from 0.1% to 10%. Open patches were less irritating than closed patches, and irritation increased directly with concentration. For prolonged contact with skin, concentration should not exceed 1%."

Green Tea Applied Topicaly Preventing Skin Cancer?

According to new studies by the American Cancer Secioty Green Tea in Skin care can help prevent skin cancer. Our Green Tea facial cream is enriched with a potent amount of Green Tea Essential Oil, Green Tea Infusion and Green Tea Extract. Read article below for more information.

"Green tea is already thought to protect against some cancers because it contains antioxidants. A recent review of previous studies finds drinking green tea may help prevent skin cancer – and it may even be effective when added to skin care creams.
Santosh K. Katiyar, Ph.D., and colleagues in the department of dermatology at Case Western Reserve University, reviewed several studies about green tea and reports that it may be useful in preventing and treating a variety of human skin disorders. The substances in green tea thought to protect against cancer are called polyphenols, which have antioxidant properties that can cancel out the damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are molecules that damage cells'' DNA and as a result can begin the process of a cell turning cancerous.

"Supplementation of skin care products with green tea may have a profound impact on various skin disorders in the years to come," he says."
